Students First
Nancy will base every decision on one simple question: Does this help our students succeed? Too often, this gets lost in politics, bureaucracy, and competing agendas. Nancy will bring the focus back to where it belongs, our students. She will measure every policy decision, expenditure, and new program with the goal of student success. Nancy will put students and their success first.
Parents are a child's first and most important teachers, and students benefit when their parents are involved in their formal education. Nancy believes the partnership between home and school is vital for a student's success. Nancy will fight for open access to curriculum and clear, timely communication with parents. She'll stand with parents and make sure they have a real voice in district decisions and that their concerns are heard. Parents should never be left in the dark about their students.
Great schools start with great teachers. Many of them are stretched thin and don't feel supported or appreciated. Nancy respects our educators and will work to keep talented people in our classrooms and attract the next generation to the profession. She will be a relentless advocate for the teachers who do so much to benefit our students.
Nancy will listen to our teachers and ensure they have real input into the decisions that affect their classrooms. Nancy will treat our teachers as the professionals that they are. She knows that when we support our teachers, our students benefit.
Our school district not only serves our students and our families, but our entire community as well. Nancy will listen to our citizens' suggestions and concerns and work together to do what is best for all of us. Nancy will work with employers, neighbors, and local leaders to build partnerships to increase student success for all students.
Nothing is more important than our students' safety. Our students need to feel safe and supported before they can succeed in learning. Nancy will support measures to harden the perimeters of our school campuses while also supporting measures to ensure that our students have access to safe, caring adults on campus to support them when needed. Nancy will work to build partnerships with local law enforcement leaders, local government officials, and community service providers to increase safety for all students.
Every dollar the School Board spends first belonged to a taxpayer. Nancy believes the test for every expenditure is simple: Does this benefit our students? She'll protect our tax dollars by putting students first and directing our dollars away from the bureaucracy and to the classroom instead.
Nancy has experience managing large, challenging government budgets. During her fourteen years in elected office, she was responsible for annual budgets ranging from $1.2 to $2 billion. She served on our County Commission during the Great Recession and successfully managed challenging budgets decimated by declining property tax revenues of approximately 30%. And she did it without raising taxes. Nancy respects the taxpayer and will ensure that each expenditure of your money benefits our students and leads to student success.
